The people of Tasmania love their solar power with over 24,600 homes and businesses having made the move to take control of their electricity bills and draw their power from the sun. The state government should be rewarding Tasmanians who have gone solar. Instead we have seen constant changes to the feed in tariffs and unfair metering.
The majority of Australians support the move to renewable energy. Recent polling shows that 71% of Australians support solar power above all other types of energy production*

To Matthew Groom, Minister for Energy and members of the Tasmanian Parliament
The solar industry in Tasmania is being stifled by a feed-in tariff that is not ‘fair and reasonable’ and unfair metering arrangements.
Solar PV on houses, community facilities and businesses can play an important role in reducing the cost of electricity distribution and in contributing to a vibrant renewable energy industry in Tasmania that creates jobs and earns income for the state.
As citizens of Tasmania we call on the state government to:
- Ensure a fair feed-in tariff that recognises the many benefits to Tasmania of a growing solar industry including the savings for all consumers from generating electricity close to the point of use.
- Fix solar metering so that solar owners are not charged for using electricity they have generated themselves.
By signing this petition, you will also be taking the Solar Citizens pledge as part the national Stand up for Solar campaign. The campaigns asks politicians to commit to a renewable energy goal of at least 50 per cent by 2030, ensure a fair feed in tariff for solar owner and for a national plan to help low income households and renters take control of their power bills and go solar.
You will also be kept up to date with Tasmanian solar activities.
